Hi everyone! I was on somewhat of a hiatus this summer which wasn’t necessarily intentional. This blog mostly functions as a kind of school blog but I usually try to make posts even when I’m not in school because I like sharing things with you guys. This summer I was pretty busy, I was working a lot and when I wasn’t working I was trying to enjoy the summer with my leftover time. That being said I really didn’t do much on the artsy side or writing side for that matter either. However, I wasn’t gone, I’ve been trying to go on Twitter more often and try to make a somewhat interesting tweet. By the way if you haven’t followed me on Twitter please feel free to do so @melfranco17 and send me a message or two!
My goals for this semester are to start working on ways to develop my style more and expand my portfolio. At this point I’m not completely worried about my portfolio but I definitely think I need to start focusing on it more. What I had a hard time on during the summer was coming with projects to create. I really wanted to do simple projects so that I could have a couple of small items instead of a larger project since I was low on time. I guess the good thing about school is that time is more balanced and scheduled, at least for me. I’d like to keep doing mini projects along the way not only for fun but so hopefully something will come from them. I’m thinking more like postcards, posters for events, even maybe some promotional-like items, who knows! Also, I promise to have much more interesting posts with pretty pictures soon! Until next time guys!
Hey Everyone! It feels like it’s been forever since I last made a post but things have been pretty hectic and when you through in the holidays, well, you can imagine! Anyway I’ve been wanting to make a post about this topic for a while now and now that I’m back I thought this would be a great post to do since we’ll be starting a new year soon. I’ll explain a little bit more about that later but for now let’s talk about art journals! I first kind of discovered these through a YouTube video I saw and I thought it was such a great concept.
Many of you artsy folk may already know what these are and not see my discovery as a big deal but keep in mind that I’m pretty new to art, in a way. I didn’t really even think of pursuing an art degree until around my junior year in high school so that being said art kind of went on the back burner for me at that time in my life. I didn’t take many art classes or get more involved with my art because at the time I had other things in mind. So basically what I’m saying is, that in some ways, I’m just beginning to explore the world of art and I certainly don’t know everything that’s out there. So when I see something that inspires me I get really excited, even if it’s not a big deal to other people, and they think I’m a little nuts.
For those of you who don’t know, an art journal is kind of like a sketchbook however the work is much more involved than just sketches. I’ve been looking at a lot of pictures online, I’ll put some here as examples, and it seems like these journals are either a compilation of pieces or a journey through the artist’s work, or both. In a way it’s like a scrapbook for art, it’s not a book full of unfinished or rough sketches, it mostly contains finished pieces. I’ve been completely inspired by this and I’m really going to try to make my own. I think not only is this a fun project but it’s a great way to kind of show your style as an artist. I think that you can really learn a lot about someone by looking at one of these.
This is where my New Year’s resolutions come in! Now to be honest I don’t really do resolutions because I usually don’t stick to them but this year I want to start of the New Year with some goals. One of them will be to make one of these! I really love the idea and I think it could be really fun and not to mention interesting. Whew! This was a long post but I hoped you enjoyed it none the less and you guys are enjoying the holidays! See you guys soon!
